Immigration dept plays dead bat to claims it runs people smuggling ring: This is a juicy scandal which suggests corruption in the immigration department and perhaps even in the office of the Immigration Minister, Philip Ruddock. An obvious question is, why wasnt this information given to the Opposition so it could raise it in parliament? Why does the media have to act as the investigators and critics? The likely and unsurprising answer would be that the Labor party lacks the courage and conviction to criticise the government over its Immigration policy, even when that policy involves corruption and lies at a high level.
