Mofaz says 73 war was war of choice: "Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz believes the Yom Kippur War was 'a war of choice' because there were missed opportunities to reach an agreement with Egypt before the fighting broke out, and because of the prevailing wisdom at the time in the Israeli leadership that the IDF's deterrent capabilities were enough to prevent war. And Mofaz believes that there is a political alternative now, but there is no partner for dialogue on the Palestinian side."

This might count as a kind of admission from the Israeli military that the Yom Kippur war could have been avoided had they accepted a political settlement. But the statement about 'no partner on the Palestinian side' is myth and nonsense. In fact, the political settlement that could be reached now to end the conflict is essentially the same as that in 1973: recognition and peace for Israel in return for withdrawal from the territories occupied in 67.
