Report warns Aboriginal land council its property bank is running out
'"There appears to be an assumption that the 'land bank' is never ending and the on-going sale of land is an acceptable method of administration of [Metro]," Mr Jackson said. "There is clear evidence ... that [Metro] is being run by the sale of land ... the land bank will be gone if this process continues. "The land is owned by all members of [Metro] and the decision to sell, as against other options, should not be made by the executive or a minority of members who attend the meetings."'

'More than $524 million of taxpayers' money over 15 years was paid into this investment fund until 1998 to aid Aboriginal economic self-sufficiency and to compensate for land lost.'

I believe that taxpayer's funding of the Land Council was in the form of 7% each year of the State land tax.
