Howard in denial over terror: "John Howard has rejected suggestions by the Australian Federal Police Commissioner, Mick Keelty, that the Madrid bombings may be linked to Spain's involvement in the invasion of Iraq, if they proved the work of Islamic terrorists."

Mr Keelty deserves commendation and support for having the courage to speak the truth despite obvious pressure from the government that is now struggling to sustain the mendacious rhetoric of the 'war on terror'.

"The war of words came as an internationally recognised expert on terrorism warned that Australia was at greater risk of terrorist attack since waging war in Iraq, but had always been one of al-Qaeda's targets."

"The US ambassador to Australia, Tom Schieffer ... rejected al-Qaeda's claim that the Madrid commuter trains were hit as punishment for Spain's allegiance to the US in Iraq. ""It [the attacks] was because it is a democracy there and the Spanish, basically, have Western values.""

This, in a nutshell, is the Aznar/ Berlusconi/ Howard/ Blair/ Bush ideology: they are not attacking us because we attack them, they are attacking us because they hate Western values. Aznar is now gone for unconditionally supporting this offensive nonsense - supporting it against both common sense, the wishes of his own people and nearly every expert who has commented on the issue. One down, four to go. It is important for the future of the planet that these politicians and their mendacious ideology of 'war on terror' are defeated at the polls.
